Now in theaters!

A film about Meredith Monk: composer, performer, visionary.

The boundary-breaking artist Meredith Monk overcame a hostile critical establishment to become one of the great innovators of her generation. In the midst of her latest creation, Indra’s Net, Monk faces mortality: can such singular work be performed without her?

Featuring interviews with Björk and David Byrne, Monk in Pieces is a mosaic that illuminates Monk’s wildly original vocabulary of sound and imagery. The film was an official selection and Teddy Award nominee at the 2025 Berlinale, and is now playing in theaters nationwide.

  • “Monk is finally getting her due recognition in this extraordinary documentary… This film is one of the peaks of the festival.”

  • “… presents the rich tapestry of Monk’s music… soaring vocalisations that swoop and loop across her three-octave range.”

    Amber Wilkinson, Screen International

    Stephen Saito, The Moveable Fest
